On April 16, "Kumamoto Earthquake Day," reconfirm daily preparations at home! Shisei Dayori April ①
Kumamoto City enforced the "Kumamoto City Disaster Prevention Basic Ordinance" on October 1, 2020 in order to realize a truly disaster-resistant city where citizens can live with peace of mind.
In order to pass on the lessons learned from the 2016 Kumamoto Earthquake to the next generation and to deepen interest in and understanding of disaster prevention, April 16 has been designated as "Kumamoto Earthquake Day." increase.
Would you like to take this opportunity to check your daily preparations?
〇Check item 1 Are stockpiles ready?
During the Kumamoto earthquakes, lifelines such as electricity, gas, and water were damaged, and the supply of goods stagnated.
Based on this lesson, it is important to prepare in advance the items necessary for life in the event of a disaster (5).
〇 Check item 2 Do you have an emergency bag ready?
The moment a disaster strikes, it is not possible to make a quick decision about what and how much to take with you when you need to evacuate. Prepare items to take out with a checklist in advance and put them in a place that is easy to take out.
〇Check item 3.Is the room ready?
Fixing furniture is an earthquake countermeasure that you can do right now. You can reduce the risk by securing it securely so that it does not tip over or move. In addition, it is also possible to devise the direction and arrangement of furniture so that people are not trapped in the house, and to put anti-scattering film on windows and glass.

【Spring National Traffic Safety Campaign Shisei Dayori, April④】
The Spring National Traffic Safety Campaign
is held every day to encourage children, especially those who entered
elementary school, to learn traffic rules and to prevent serious accidents.
(1)Ensure the
safety of pedestrians.
The number of traffic incidents of
children while walking has increased since April. Make sure to follow traffic
rules and check the safety before you walk across the crosswalk.
(2)Increase
awareness of pedestrians’ safety.
Most of the fatal accidents occur while
walking across the road. Crosswalks are a pedestrian priority zone. Drivers
must pay attention to those who are walking.
(3)Make sure to
obey the rules while you are riding a bicycle.
Bicycle is a kind of vehicle, which
is categorized into those which do not have a motor, according to the Road
Traffic Act. Drivers must observe the rules.
【In case an earthquake occurs Shisei Dayori, April⑤】
When an earthquake comes, please
note the following to protect yourself.
〇When you are at home,
First, protect yourself. It is effective to
hide under the table. Close the gas main when you go to a shelter. To prevent
foot injury, do not forget to wear shoes.
〇When you are on the street,
First, stay away from things that may fall
down, for example, concrete block walls and vending machines. Pay
attention to falling objects, for instance, signboards. Protect your head with
a bag and take shelter in a vacant lot or a park.
〇When you are driving a car,
Reduce speed slowly, and stop on the left
side of the road. Do not get out of the car until the shake subsides and
collect information.
〇When you are near the coast,
Take refuge in the hills.
Do not go to the coast until the tsunami alert and advisory is lifted. A
momentary judge means the difference between life and death in that accident.
Do not be panicked. Stay calm.
