Last UpdateF2017/5/11

High Medical Expenses

High Medical Expense System is the one which prevents families from having too much burden on their medical expenses in their family budget. After the copayment of medical expenses are individually paid at medical institutions, the part of the amount beyond the pre-set monthly amount limit for copayment will be reimbursed later on applications by the insurer.

For National Health Insurance subscribers aged 70 and older, the limit of the copayment will be raised from August, 2017 in accordance with their incomes and so on. From August, 2018 on, the limit of copayment will also be altered together  with the classification change of the target people. There is no change for the households who have no duty of the residential tax payment.

Living expenses in medical treatment when Hospitalized

For National Health Insurance subscribers aged from 65 through 74 who are hospitalized for their medical treatment, their living expenses will be raised from the point of view that the burdern of expenses should be equal among the people who are cared at the nursing-care insurance facilities or are medically treated at their own home. Therefore, It is considered reasonable to ask the amount equivalent to the utility expenses(heating, lighting and water expenses) and so the burden for the above people will be raised. There is no change for the patients of intractable diseases.
