` Turning Kumamoto into Bike-friendly City `

‘  What is the reason for creating bicycle prohibited areas?

Some bad-mannered bicycle users leave their bicycles unattended on busy streets, blocking the passage of emergency vehicles and physically challenged people.  Besides, these bicycles have been deteriorating the city scenery.  Thus, unattended bicycles prohibited zones have been designated.

Public places where unattended bicycles are disturbing residentsf comfortable living environments as well as other places which have such possibility are designated as gUnattended Bicycles Prohibited Zones.h  In areas designated as such, deserted bicycles are removed as soon as they are found.

‘  What will happen to your bicycle if it is taken away?

Confiscated bicycles will be stored by the city government for three months, but after that they will be properly disposed of.

Storage site: Heisei Bicycle Depository (096-364-3910)

            Heisei Dai-2 Bicycle Depository (096-370-5606)

Reclaiming time: 10:00 ~ 16:30  Monday through Saturday (except public holidays and December 29 ~ January 3)

Requirements for reclaim:

              ESomething to identify yourself

              EYour personal seal

              ERemoval & storage fee: \1,500

‘Why do I have to pay the fee?

Compared with the number of bicycle users, parking capacity in bicycle-parking areas is very limited.  In order to ensure enough bicycle parks, it is necessary to encourage private sectors to take part in this business, with beneficiaries-pay principle applied.
